Recovery

When a slice is deleted, if it is more than 24 hours old it will have a “grace period” before it’s resources are fully purged from the Syminet Cloud. Details of this are described below.

It can take a minute or two for a deleted slice to show up in recovery. If you do not see it in recovery, wait a bit and try reloading the page.

To recover a slice, click the ellipsis to open the dropdown menu, and click Recover Slice. You will be redirected to the slice details page while it rebuilds.

Note

IP address(es) for the recovered slice will likely change, because IP addresses are immediately released back into the pool upon delete.

Recovery images are available for deleted slices until they expire. Expiration times are calculated as follows:

  • For every day a slice has been in the system, it gains 1 hour, to a maximum of 24 hours.

  • Hours start at 0, which means slices less than 24 hours old are not recoverable.

For example:

  • If a slice is 3 days old, it will be recoverable for 2 hours.

  • If a slice is 25+ days old, it will be recoverable for 24 hours.

Attention

Recovery is not a guarantee. Although we do our best to strive for above criteria, we might have to lower expiration times or even disable recovery altogether during times of unusually high load. Please keep this in mind when deleting slices.

Billing and recovered slices

When a slice is recovered, the billing continues as if it was never deleted. The hours a slice was in Recovery are also billed the regular rate.

Note

This only applies when a slice is recovered. If a slice is not recovered, then the billing stops the moment the slice is deleted.
