Rename
======

You can rename a slice by clicking the pencil icon next to the slice name at the 
top of the :ref:`slice_details` page.  Changing the name of your slice will also update 
its PTR / rDNS entry associated with the public :doc:`IP address <addresses>` for the slice. 

If a slice has a :doc:`custom PTR/rDNS record <../networking/ptr>` there will be a notification 
in the form, along with a checkbox.  If the checkbox is checked, the custom PTR/rDNS record will
be removed and set to the new slice name.  Otherwise, only the slice is renamed.

.. Note::
    Hostnames must not begin with a dash ("-"), and valid characters are: letters, numbers, 
    dash and dot.
